Unlikely Animals Inspire Reddit Children’s Book

Some unlikely animal pairings have inspired a Reddit children’s book.

The news of Reddit intending to publish a book will come as no shock to readers considering that Dennis Rodman has also pursued a career in children’s stories.

On Sunday Reddit user, Pianoangel420, posted real-life photos of a raccoon and squirrel cuddling up to one another and playing together.

In true Reddit fashion, it didn’t take long for another user, Crappy_Doodler, to post sketches inspired by the unlikely animal friends.

Crappy_Doodler had this to say within minutes of seeing the original post: “This is way too cute. I immediately imagined them going on adventures in a children’s book. Had to draw it.”

The Reddit children’s book has the intended title of The Adventures of Simon and Oliver.

After submitting the whimsical, enchanting sketch, it only took a matter of hours for another Redditor, Virgoan, to say: “Ok Reddit, let’s write a book.”

Before long, the story turned into Reddit’s version of crowd-sourced storytelling.

Virgoan opened the tale with this: “Up in the trees so high were two unlikely friends. Simon is a raccoon and Oliver is a squirrel. This is a tale about how they met and the great adventure they had together!”

Since this story opening, over 20o comments have added to the story, constantly changing the plot and making it a truly original Reddit exclusive.

Furthermore, Crappy_Doodler has actually started along the path to make the Reddit children’s book a reality.

He commented to the rest of the Reddit wannabe authors with this message: “I am excited to announce that I’m going to be creating the book with /u/StoryTellerBob!!!!”

Maybe by the time World Book Day 2014 comes round, children will be reading this Reddit tale alongside their other favorites.

In an interview with The Huffington Post, Crappy_Doodler said that they’re just waiting on approval from Kickstart before they can turn the unlikely animal pairing from a series of photographs to a full blown children’s book.

However, whether it will become a reality remains to be seen.

Hopefully, the Reddit users will keep avid followers up to date with the progress of their story draft.

Who knows, before too long we could all be reading about the first ever published Reddit children’s book.
