Jon Stewart Turns ‘Daily Show’ Over To ‘Much Classier’ John Oliver [Video]

On Thursday, comedian Jon Stewart hosted his very last Daily Show (until Labor Day, that is).

During the episode’s “Moment of Zen,” Stewart promised that The Daily Show would be “much classier” in his absence as he turned over hosting duties to John Oliver. New host Oliver, meanwhile, was already poking around the stage taking measurements and demanding the set be re-done in pink.

“Oh wow, you’re still here,” Oliver said, surprised that Stewart was still around. “Looks like we have us an awkward situation on our hands.”

Stewart then tried to start his “Moment of Zen” when Oliver interrupted.

“Hahaha! It’s my show now! You can’t even throw to Zen without me butting in. Hey look! I’ve got your pens! I’m putting them in my pants,” Oliver said, doing exactly as he said.

Despite transitional mishaps, Stewart said that Oliver would be a great replacement and promised to make sure he’d be “feeding the plants and watering the children.”

“This show will be much classier while he is hosting. You have my word that on my return, it will instantly drop back to the level you have long expected of it,” said Stewart, who added he was taking a break due to a planned “massive plastic surgery makeover.”

Stewart is actually taking off to direct his first film, Rosewater. It’s about Iranian journalist Maziar Bahari, who was locked up after speaking to a Daily Show correspondent. It will be based on Bahari’s novel recounting the events.

“I will miss you far more than you will miss me and I can’t wait to get back. Thank you for your indulgence,” Stewart concluded.
