Mariah Carey Announces Album Release Date


Mariah Carey will be releasing her first album in four years this summer.

Carey’s fourteenth studio album, which has yet to be named, will hit shelves July 23. The first single, “#Beautiful,” debuted at No. 44 and is currently at No. 20 on the Billboard Hot 100. The single has also reached No. 23 on the Adult Contemporary charts, No. 4 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and No. 16 on the Pop Songs chart. the single was made available for digital download on May 6. The video for “#Beautiful” was premiered May 9 on American Idol. Carey also surprised the audience at Hot 97’s Summer XX Sunday, performing “#Beautiful” with Miguel.

It was confirmed that Carey, who was a judge on the singing competition for one season, was leaving the show. Fellow judges Randy Jackson and Nicki Minaj also departed the competition, leaving Keith Urban as the last judge standing. Urban said he has no idea whether he will be asked to return next season.

In addition to the new album, Carey will be embarking on her first world concert tour since 2004 this summer. The Charmbracelet World Tour took the mother of two to over 20 countries and spanned eight months and 69 shows. Her last tour, the 2010 Angels Advocate tour, took her to Brazil, Egypt, and Singapore, as well as the US and Canada. The associated album, Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel — which was her most recent album — was the lowest-selling of her career, selling only 2 million copies worldwide. Carey’s best-selling album, 1993’s Music Box, sold over 30 million copies worldwide.

Mariah Carey is the best-selling female artist of all time, selling more than 200 million albums over the span of a 23-year career. Carey entered the music scene with her self-titled debut album when she was 19 and has amassed 224 #1 Billboard hits, and 18 #1 Hot 100 Singles, the most of any solo artist.
