20 Baseball Players Facing Major Suspensions Over Doping Scandal

A total of 20 Major League Baseball Players could soon be suspended because of their use of performance-enhancing drugs.

ESPN is reporting that the case could potentially be the worst drug abuse scandal in MLB history.

The league has not confirmed all the details of the case but has admitted that an investigation is underway.

Unnamed sources at ESPN have named Alex “A-Rod” Rodriguez and Ryan Braun among those players currently under investigation. Both A-Rod and Braun have adamantly denied any part in the PEDs investigation.

The report suggests that the suspension period could be doubled because players hid their performance enhancing drug use and then lied about PED use when confronted by officials.

Ryan Braun is no stranger to possible suspensions regarding PEDs. In 2012, Braun faced a suspension after a test showed increasingly high levels of testosterone in his body. Braun disputed the claims and his suspension was overturned in February 2013.

Reports of A-Rod’s PED use began in January when a Florida newspaper claimed he acquired the drugs from Miami anti-aging clinic Biogenesis.

Biogenesis is run by Anthony Bosch, and he has agreed to cooperate with the MLB investigation.

ESPN reports that many MLB players are named in the investigation, but those records require Bosch to admit their accuracy.

Bosch was hit with an MLB lawsuit in March after it was learned that his agency was providing PEDs to players. Bosch has also been accused of instructing players on how to avoid PED detection during routine drug tests.

A-Rod, in the meantime, has been tight-lipped about any involvement in the case as he continues to recover from a recent injury.

Other player names from the MLB have not been revealed at this time, likely because information about their PED involvement has not yet been confirmed.

Do you think a massive performance enhancing drugs scandal will tarnish the MLB’s image beyond repair?
