‘American Idol’ Tour Cancels Several Shows

The upcoming American Idol tour just got a little shorter.

Nearly a dozen shows in the upcoming tour have reportedly been axed by 19 Entertainment. Nine of the original stops have been canceled while another has been rescheduled.

According to a statement, production scheduling changes have prompted tour organizers to drop a few dates from the itinerary. Instead of kicking off towards the end of June, the tour will now begin towards the middle of July.

“Due to production scheduling changes, the American Idol 2013 Tour will now begin on July 19th and go through the summer until August 31st. The Idols look forward to performing in 30 venues across the country,” the release from 19 Entertainment read.

The original schedule contained over 40 tour stops across the nation. It’s rumored that poor ticket sales and a record low ratings may have prompted planners to scale back a bit.

Glee tour organizer Jared Paul told The Hollywood Reporter that it all comes down to supply and demand.

“You have to match the public’s interest. Whether somebody will part with their hard-earned money is all talent-dependent,” Paul explained.

In addition to American Idol season 12 winner Candice Glover, the upcoming tour will also feature Amber Holcomb, Angie Miller, Burnell Taylor, Curtis Finch Jr., Devin Velez, Janelle Arthur, Kree Harrison, Lazaro Arbos, Paul Jolley, and Aubrey Cleland.

Glover is also putting together her first album. She tweeted last week that she was in the studio recording tracks for the collection of tunes. The disc is expected to release this July, which is just in time for the tour.

Here’s a list of the shows canceled by 19 Entertainment.

June 29 – St. Louis, MO Chaifetz Arena
June 30 – Kansas City, MO Sprint Center
July 2 – Minneapolis, MN Target Center
July 5 – Detroit, MI Joe Louis Arena
July 6 – Rosemont, IL Allstate Arena (rescheduled for August 12 in Trenton, NJ)
July 8 – Tulsa, OK BOK Center
July 10 – Broomfield, CO 1STBANK Center
July 12 – Las Vegas, NV Mandalay Bay Events Center
July 13 – Ontario, CA Citizens Business Bank Arena
July 14 – Oakland, CA The Oracle Arena

News of the cancellations arrived just days after Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey confirmed their departure from the singing competition. It’s unknown if Keith Urban will return for another season.
