Blake Shelton’s tornado benefit concert raised an impressive $6 million.
The country music star’s televised event was designed to help generate some money for the victims of the Oklahoma tornadoes. Between pledges and ticket sales, Shelton and his team raised several million dollars for those struggling to make sense of the chaos.
The fund-raising event took place at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City . The concert, which aired Wednesday on NBC, included Reba McEntire, Rascal Flatts, Darius Rucker, Ryan Tedder, and Luke Bryan.
Miranda Lambert also performed during Blake Shelton’s benefit show. At one point during her appearance, the singer became so overwhelmed with emotion that she broke down in tears.
The proceeds from “Healing in the Heartland” will go to the United Way of Central Oklahoma. The $6 million earned during the concert will reportedly be distributed to agencies around the state that need help putting all of these pieces back together.
Although the concert is over, that doesn’t mean you still can’t contribute to the cause with some help from Blake Shelton. The country music star has put together a Healing the Heartland auction on eBay that will assist those who lost everything during last week’s storms.
Blake Shelton, who grew up in Oklahoma, quickly put the concert together after the tornadoes killed 24 people and left others without a place to call home. The singer said he was just doing his part to help those who had lost everything.
“Everyone has their way to help, and mine as an entertainer is to perform to help raise money and awareness for this tragedy. This is why I want to do this special and especially hold it in Oklahoma City, which is near ground zero,” Shelton said in a statement.
