Angelina Jolie’s auntie, Debbie Martin, has died from breast cancer only weeks after the actress reduced her risk of breast cancer by going through a double mastectomy.
Debbie Martin passed away on Sunday, with her husband Ron Martin revealing the news to E! News hours after her demise.
Martin remarked, “Angelina has been in touch throughout the week and her brother Jamie has been with us, giving his support day by day.”
He then added, “The both loved Debbie very much, and although Angie is not able to come right now she has sent her love and support which was vey nice.”
When discussing Jolie’s decision to go through a double mastectomy, Marting added that he and his wife were “very proud” of her. He then stated that it will “keep her family from having to go through what we’ve been through.”
Martin added that Jolie’s father, Jon Voight, has recently visited his wife in the hospital, stating, “I know Debbie really enjoyed seeing him and talking with him.”
A source to the Daily Mirror stated, “Angelina was very close to Deb and she did everything she could do to help her. Deb was very supportive of Angelina’s decision to have preventative surgery. If she had known before what she found out too late, she would have had a double mastectomy as well as her ovaries removed.”
Debbie Martin slipped into a coma on Saturday evening, and waited anxiously for news on her fate after doctors switched off her life-support machine.
Ron said at the time, “She had a seizure and we took her into the hospital. They have turned off the life-support and her family is all here holding her hand. This is the love of my life.”
