Demi Lovato Sneak Preview Twitter Campaign Unlocks ‘Demi’ Tracks [Audio]

Demi Lovato unveiled her fourth studio album, Demi, with a so-called timed-release campaign that allowed fans to preview new songs. Starting Monday afternoon, Lovato asked her nearly 14 million Twitter followers to unlock songs by making them trending topics.

Demi won’t be officially released by Hollywood Records until Tuesday, May 14, but if you visited Demi Lovato’s Speed Up Time website on Monday, you could see a clock that sped up and released songs as fans tweeted out the titles on the list.

When fans tweeted enough to make the song trend worldwide, the tune was then released. As many as 100,000 tweets with the requested hashtags went out in an hour, and both Demi Lovato and fans seemed happy but exhausted by the end of Monday night.

One single from the album, “Heart Attack,” was already leaked, intentionally or not, in February. It was officially released not long afterwards to debut at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100.

That song sold 215,000 copies in its first week.

The new album is a follow-up to 2011’s Unbroken, which was a rather confessional work that dealt with some of her well-publicized personal struggles.

The X-Factor judge has acknowledged multiple mental health problems, including bipolar disorder, self-injury, and an eating disorder. At one point, she took a break from acting because she said that she didn’t feel comfortable in front of the camera while she battled her demons.
