Vijay Singh Won’t Be Suspended For Deer Antler Spray Doping

Vijay Singh won’t be suspended for his use of deer antler spray despite the fact that it is a banned substance under the PGA’s rules and guidelines.

Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem announced that the hall-of-fame golfer was cleared of wrong doing, despite the fact that he admitted to use of the banned substance.

At the heart of the ruling was the fact that the 34 time tour title winner admitted to the use but said he didn’t realize that there were banned substances in the spray.

IGF-1 is a human growth hormone that the Professional Golfer’s Association has outlawed and is inside the deer antler spray that was used.

Vijay Singh was initially sanctioned for using the product but has now basically been completely cleared. The length of time and the problems surrounding this issue have been enough to get other golfers to angrily weigh in.

Greg Norman slammed the process just yesterday saying “”How deep it is (the problem), I have no idea because we only do urine analysis instead of blood testing. If you really want to be serious about it and find about what’s really going on, we need to do blood testing.”

Norman was specifically referencing the fact that his fellow hall of famer was about to get off on a technicality. Because Singh admitted to using the substance, but didn’t actually test positive, tour rules don’t allow for suspension.

IGF-1 does not show up in “routine blood testing.” Finchem also said that there is some debate as to whether the spray that the golfer used was banned if there wasn’t enough of the hormone to show up in basic testing.

The whole situation has been quite confusing and there are more than a few people who wonder whether a lesser known golfer admitting the same thing would get similar treatment.

What do you think of Vijay Singh not being suspended?
