It looks like Johnny Depp and his Rum Diary co-star Amber Heard are an honest-to-goodness real couple, which means we all owe the National Enquirer a big apology for making fun.
The tabloid originally claimed that Depp was given an ultimatum by Heard: Go public with this or it’s over. The same week, 49-year-old Depp was photographed holding hands with his 27-year-old co-star as they worked a crowd at a Rolling Stones show in Los Angeles.
So that settles that, apparently. And now the sources speak:
“Amber has been at Johnny to go public since the beginning of the year,” an insider said. “When he balked, she walked out on him and went back to [sometime girlfriend] Tasya [van Ree], and Johnny totally freaked out! Amber’s become the major organizer of his crazy world, and he couldn’t cope without her.”
That’s an Enquirer source, with an Us Weekly source adding that Depp built a bar at his Bahamas estate that duplicates the set where the two met on Rum Diary . Seems a bit far-fetched, but the source was adamant.
“The movie’s set designer created the plans,” the source claims.
Again, it sounds kind of out there, but you never know with Johnny Depp. This is a guy whose eccentricity knows no leash. He once famously appeared at a primary school in London dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow after a 9-year-old wrote him a letter asking him to help stage a mutiny against the teachers.
And that’s exactly what they did. Because he’s Johnny Depp.
In any case, Depp and Heard were first put together last summer after he walked out on longtime French girlfriend Vanessa Paradis, which got all the media a-churning with rumors that he had left Paradis for Heard. Nothing much seemed to come of it except for Depp’s new-found single-ness, but now we know.
“They are so in love,” says another spy of the couple. “He’s crazy about her.”
