Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s Mom Spoke To Tamerlan Before Deadly MIT Shootout

The mother of Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, Zubeidat Tsarnaev, spoke to her deceased elder son as the deadly standoff at MIT escalated Thursday night — and explains what her older child said before he died in a hail of bullets in a tense confrontation with police.

Zubeidat Tsarnaev believes her sons are innocent and have been set up as culprits in the Boston Marathon bombings — last week, the distraught and grieving Zubeidat claimed that her elder son had a working relationship with the FBI.

She said during an initial interview:

“Being a mother, what I can say is that I am very sure, I am like 100 percent sure, that is is a setup. My two sons are really innocent, and I know that neither of them never, never has talked about whatever they are saying about [them] now … My son would never do this. It is a setup. He was controlled by FBI like for three, five years. They knew what my son was doing. […] they were controlling every step of him.”

Tamerlan Tsarnaev, who died in the MIT shootout, and brother Dzhokhar, who was gravely injured, are accused of a horrific crime and a potential anti-US campaign of attack — but when listening to Zubeidat speak, it’s difficult not to identify to some small degree with the pain of a mother whose sons are at the center of the mayhem.

Recalling her last conversation with Tamerlan Tsarnaev, she quotes her dead son:

” ‘The police, they have started shooting at us, they are chasing us … Mama, I love you.’ ”

Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s mother Zubeidat lived and worked in the US for a time, as a facialist, and a former client spoke of her interactions with both Zubeidat and Dzhokhar.

The woman, who visited Zubeidat for facial treatments, recalls Dzhokhar as a kind and polite young man — but admits that the family’s religious affiliations disrupted their business relationship:

“While Zubeidat was very good at giving facials, I can say that her increased religious zeal and offensive political suggestions about 9/11 in part influenced my decision to not return to her home since January 2012. Those details aside, she struck me as a hard-working woman who cared a lot for her family.”

Zubeidat’s surviving son has reportedly regained consciousness and started to speak to investigators, but it is not yet known what he has said.
