Neighbors Describe Boston Bombing Suspects’ Father As ‘A Good Man’

Anzar Tsarnaev, the father of Boston bombing suspects Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, is very well-regarded among members of his community in Makhachkala, Dagestan.

His neighbors of a year and a half on Oleg Koshevoi Street say that Anzar is helpful and kind. Raisa Gorbacheva, a 50-year-old cleaning lady and single mother, delivered a glowing report: “Anzar has always helped me,” she said. “He has given me advice,” regarding house repair and renovation, she added.

“I don’t believe it’s possible that his sons could have been responsible” for the Boston Marathon bombings, she added. “Because the father is such a good man.”

However, she has never met his sons, despite reports that 26-year-old Tamerlan spent six months visiting Anzar last summer. “I never saw him here,” she said.

Still, she says that Anzar’s helpfulness isn’t out of order for the town or the country.

“Everybody says Dagestan this, Dagestan that,” she concluded. “But this is a place of good people, neighbors who help each other.”

Still, the Mujahideen of the Caucasus Emirate’s Province of Dagestan put out a statement distancing the country from the actions of Tamerlan and Dzhokhar on Sunday, saying that “the Caucasian Mujahideen are not fighting against the United States of America. We are at war with Russia, which is not only responsible for the occupation of the Caucasus, but also for heinous crimes against Muslims.”

The statement continued: “Also, remember that even in respect to the enemy state of Russia, which is fighting the Caucasus Emirate, there is an order by the Emir Dokku Umarov, which prohibits strikes on civilian targets.”

Anzar is one of many in the Tsarnaev family who believe that both Tamerlan and Dzhokhar are innocent. A CBS consultant who spoke to Anzar recently described him as being “absolutely in shock and denial” and continually insistent that his sons are “very good boys.”

“My son is a true angel,” he said of Tamerlan this week.

“They were set up, they were set up!” he said, after the events late Thursday/early Friday. “I saw it on television; they killed my older son Tamerlan.”
