George Lopez is heading back to the sitcom world.

The standup comedian will be starring in a new sitcom on FX called Saint George.

The new show, which was co-created by Lopez, will be the comedian’s first starring role since his ABC series George Lopez ended in 2007.

FX Networks’ Chuck Saftler said : “George Lopez is an incredibly gifted actor-producer and one of the most talented comedians in the business.”

Lopez added : “I’m excited about my new show… (I) couldn’t think a better group of people or better place to create than FX…. Now to get ready… Back to Pilates!”

The new show will feature Lopez as recently divorced working class Mexican-American who has recently become a successful entrepreneur. According to USA Today , the show will also feature an 11-year-old son, an overbearing mother, and a demanding ex-wife.

The Washington Post reports that FX is taking the same approach they did with Charlie Sheen’s Anger Management . The Network has ordered 10 episodes of Saint George. If the first 10 shows hit a certain ratings mark, FX will automatically agree 90 more episodes.

The new show will be produced by Lionsgate Television, Wind Dancer Films, Travieso Productions and 3 Arts Entertainment.

Lionsgate’s TV president Kevin Beggs said: “( Saint George will feature George Lopez’s) no-holds-barred comedic take on the tensions surrounding race, class, sex and family life in Los Angeles through the eyes of a man straddling two separate cultures.”
