Reddit Murder Confession? User Makes Meme To Admit Killing, Deletes Account When Others Investigate
A Reddit murder confession sent internet investigators into overdrive mode after a user created a photo meme to apparently admit killing another man.
The Reddit murder confession showed up on the popular image and link-sharing site in the form of Confession Bear, a meme where users admit to usually trivial things. But this weekend one user who went by Naratto used the meme to actually confess a murder.
“My sister had an abusive meth addict boyfriend,” Naratto claimed in a Confession Bear posted Saturday night. “I killed him with his own drugs while he was unconscious and they ruled it as an overdose.”
The thread quickly turned into a debate over whether the confession was true or not (Reddit users are often accused of making up images and confessions to gain “karma,” the mostly meaningless points they get when other users vote for their posts).
Those who did believe the Reddit murder confession to be true then split over whether someone should contact authorities.
“Honestly, I hope this leads to an investigation,” wrote TotalBeefcake. “He’s probably just harvesting karma, but the idea of someone getting away with murder and then having the nards to gloat about it on a popular website really boils my bottom.”
User spacemanspiff30, who claimed to work in criminal justice, said that it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility that the Reddit murder confession was true.
“99%of crimes get caught because they are idiots. Cops rarely have to do more than look to the obvious. Hell, people will rat out or be ratted out by their mothers for little to no gain. If this is true, don’t think it’s outside the realm of possibility that it happened exactly how you think it didn’t.”
It didn’t take long for people to find out more about Naratto. Some people found the user’s personal information, including MySpace page, date of birth, jobs, location, and Twitter. The user then deleted the account, leaving others only to wonder what happened.
Some users think they solved the Reddit murder confession, however. The way the murder is described fits the plot of the AMC show Breaking Bad, which is very popular with Reddit users.
