Co-stars Matt Damon and Alice Braga are featured in the latest images from the upcoming science fiction flick Elysium.

The movie is the most recent effort from director Neill Blomkamp. The thriller reunites the filmmaker with his District 9 star Sharlto Copley.

Columbia Pictures is set to release Elysium during the very crowded summer movie season. The flick was originally scheduled to arrive in theaters this March. However, the folks at Sony Pictures decided to give Blomkamp’s project a much better release date.

The movie has been officially described as follows:

“In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes, a hard line government official will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.”

In addition to Matt Damon, Alice Braga, and Sharlto Copley, Elysium also stars Jodie Foster, Diego Luna, Wagner Moura, and William Fichtner.

Matt Damon said during an interview with Playboy last year that the cast and crew shot several sequences inside a dump to get the “ruined Earth” look Blomkamp was aiming for.

“We shot in that human-waste dump for two weeks. What you see on-screen is supposed to look futuristic, but it was actually just helicopters flying over us, kicking up dust that coats you and that you know is fecal matter. We were very careful, but it was unbelievably toxic,” the actor explained.

Neill Blomkamp politically-charged thriller is among several science fiction flicks slated for release this year. Elysium will be joined by TRON:Legacy director Joseph Kosinski’s Oblivion and M. Night Shyamalan’s After Earth.
