Tia Mowry-Hardrict Comedy ‘Instant Mom’ Ordered To Series By NickMom

Tia Mowry-Hardrict’s comedy pilot Instant Mom (working title) has been picked up for a 13-episode season order.

The multi-camera comedy will premiere first on NickMom, making it the first scripted series for the primetime block of Nick Jr. Repeats will air on Nick at Nite.

The series was originally created by Warren Bell (According to Jim) and Jessica Butler (In Plain Sight), but neither will be involved in the series. Instead, Howard Gould (The Jeff Foxworthy Show) will act as executive producer and showrunner. Aaron Kaplan (GCB, Terra Nova) will also act as executive producer.

Instant Mom revolves around a 25-year-old party girl named Stephanie (Mowry-Hardrict) who marries Charlie (Michael Boatman), an older man with three kids. Stephanie slowly adjusts to being a stepmom while still trying to maintain some of her party girl lifestyle.

Sheryl Lee Ralph (Moesha) will play Maggie, Stephanie’s mother. Charlie’s three children will be played by Sydney Park (CSI: NY), Tylen Williams (Parks and Recreation), and Damarr Calhoun (Scandal).

Instant Mom is the perfect addition to our NickMom nighttime comedy block designed to let moms unwind from the day and laugh at the often hilarious experiences of parenthood,” said Bronwen O’Keefe, the senior vice president of NickMom. “This show has a fantastic cast and at the center is Tia bringing all her warmth and talent to this funny and relatable character.”

Tia Mowry-Hardrict landed Instant Mom just two months after being let go from BET’s The Game. For five seasons, she played Melanie Barnett (later Melanie Barnett Davis), a medical student who gives up the chance to go to Johns Hopkins to move to San Diego with her boyfriend Derwin Davis after he is drafted by the San Diego Sabers football team. In addition to Instant Mom, Mowry-Hardrict also stars with her twin sister, Tamera Mowry-Housely, in the Style Network series Tia Tamera.
