Sidney Crosby Out Indefinitely With Broken Jaw

Sidney Crosby is out indefinitely with a broken jaw.

The Pittsburgh Penguins star was hit with a puck during the team’s victory over the New York Islanders earlier this week.

The Penguins announced on their website that Crosby had surgery on his jaw on Saturday night. Crosby will be out indefinitely. The team will reevaluate his condition later this week.

The Penguins website reads: “Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby underwent surgery Saturday night for a broken jaw and will be out indefinitely. The Penguins will have an update on the time frame later this week. Crosby, the NHL’s leading scorer, was struck in the face with a puck during the Penguins’ 2-0 victory over the New York Islanders Saturday at CONSOL Energy Center. He also underwent major dental work and will have additional dental work later in the week.”

Teammate Jarome Iginla, who made his debut for the Penguins this week, said that Crosby never had a chance to move out of the way. Crosby was standing to the right of the goal when Brooks Oprik’s shot got redirected. Crosby didn’t see the puck coming and was hit in the jaw.

Iginla said: “When you see the replay, he had no chance to move … He didn’t see it hit him. It’s a very, very unfortunate play.”

Here’s a video of the play.
