‘Ink And Bone’ Horror Script Bought By Dimension Films

Ink and Bone, a new horror screenplay from the pen of Zak Olkewicz, has found a home with Bob Weinstein at Dimension Films.

The production company purchased the rights to produce the script for an undisclosed sum, Deadline reported on Wednesday. In a statement, Weinstein said he “immediately read and loved the concept of Zak’s script.”

The story will focus on an editor, who is sent to help a hermit horror writer finish his latest masterpiece only to become trapped in the house by everything the writer has ever created.

“It reminds me of Stephen King’s work and I feel that Ink and Bone could be a successful upscale thriller for Dimension,” Weinstein added.

The press release Dimension issued on Wednesday drew comparisons between Ink and Bone and the already-produced Stephen King shocker 1408 from 2007, also produced by Dimension.

The comparative work — see trailer below if you’ve forgotten — starred John Cusack as a supernatural hoax debunker, who checks in to the Dolphin Hotel and the titular room, which has a reputation for being haunted. (Spoiler alert: it is.)

Beyond the basic plot of Ink and Bone little else is known, but it’s definitely in the right place for its genre. Dimension produced its first horror film with Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice in 1992, according to IMDb.

(The “final”part of that subtitle was a tad misleading since there have been seven other films produced since then for a grand total of nine in the series.)

Dimension also produced the popular slasher franchise Scream (all four of them), directed by Wes Craven (A Nightmare on Elm Street).

As for Bob Weinstein, when he’s not recovering from divorce or keeping Lindsay Lohan’s career on life support with films like Scary Movie 5, he continues to indulge a love for the horror genre that began with 1981’s slasher The Burning, a film he also co-wrote.
