Too Soon, Hollywood? Ryan Gosling Rumored To Play Oscar Pistorius

If Bradley Cooper is playing Lance Armstrong in a planned biopic about the cyclist’s downfall, then it only makes sense that another planned picture about a similarly scandal-ridden athlete would need some serious star power.

Enter Ryan Gosling in green leg tape, ready to play Olympic sprinter and accused murderer Oscar Pistorius.

Oscar Pistorius is accused of murdering girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp after she was found dead in the couple’s home just last month. Though the case is nowhere near closed (it’s actually still in its infancy), rumor has it that Hollywood is already working on a film about the Olympic runner’s downfall, and that they’ve set eyes on their “Blade Runner.”

According to reports, Ryan Gosling is in the lead to play Pistorius alongside Charlize Theron as Steenkamp in a planned biopic about the model’s final days. A number of scripts are being passed around and several names have been thrown out there, but Gosling and Theron seem to be the people’s choice for the now.

Of course, these rumors comes courtesy of the usual “unnamed sources,” who say: “You’ve got one of the world’s most famous sportsmen under arrest and a beautiful young woman who meets a violent death. Scripts began doing the rounds within days of the scandal breaking.”

Gee, that’s not tasteless at all. Still, Gosling is reportedly the ideal guy.

“Ryan has the kind of quiet magnetism that would make this project work – plus there’s some mystery about him,” the source revealed.

Of course, Gosling recently announced a semi-permanent hiatus from acting, so it doesn’t seem likely that the project would coax him out of almost-retirement. It’s not exactly the role of the year.

Still, sources apparently aren’t worried about that.

“Although Ryan has been saying publicly that he wants to take a break from acting to relax, executives will be falling over themselves to woo him once the scripts are finalized.”

Will it work? Probably not, if Gosling’s own words are anything to go by.

“I’ve lost perspective on what I’m doing. I think it’s good for me to take a break and reassess why I’m doing it and how I’m doing it,” he said of his hiatus. “I need a break from myself as much as I imagine the audience does.”

What do you think? Could you see Ryan Gosling as Oscar Pistorius? Is a movie about Reeva Steenkamp in poor taste? Sound off!
