Mike White Adapting Novel From ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ Author

With the enormous box office and critical success of Silver Linings Playbook, emerging reports are announcing that the author of the book of the same title may have other works ready to be adapted for the big screen.

Screenwriter and sometimes actor Mike White is looking to Matthew Quick’s works for a possible adaptation, and word is that DreamWorks is joining White for an adaptation to possibly rival the Weinstein’s Silver Linings Playbook.

Instead of just buying the rights to Matthew Quick’s novel, the studio smartly acquired The Good Luck of Right Now, during the end of award season, which by then saw Silver Linings Jennifer Lawrence rise to an even bigger fame from her role in the film. Unlike Silver Linings Playbook, this purchase happened when the title was in manuscript form.

What’s looking to be a dark comedy, The Good Luck of Right Now is said to be spearheaded by Mike White, who will adapt the manuscript for the screen, while working with DreamWorks. This is a great move for Mike White, seeing that his HBO created show Enlightened has now been officially cancelled by the network after running for two seasons. White co-starred with Laura Dern in the show.

In addition to his work in television, White also penned the hilarious The School of Rock, the dramedy starring Jennifer Aniston The Good Girl, and the indie comedy Chuck & Buck. Known for his odd sense of humor, it looks like Dreamworks has gotten the right man to take Matthew Quick’s words to the big screen.
Earlier in the month White spoke about the rallying of fans of Enlightened when the show was still on the bubble of being saved. At the time, White said: “It’s awesome, regardless of whether we get a Season 3.”

Do you think Mike White is a good fit to adapt a Matthew Quick work?
