Colt McCoy proposes to girlfriend Rachel Glandorf via scoreboard

Former starting quarterback for the University of Texas Colt McCoy, injured in last week’s national championship game, proposed to girlfriend Rachel Glandorf rather spectacularly last night at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium last night.

McCoy injured his shoulder during the big-deal game against Alabama, and was unable to return to play:

“Colt sustained a nerve injury involving his right shoulder that prevented him from returning to the game. The injury caused numbness and weakness in his arm that prevented him from throwing with the strength or accuracy he needed,” Boyd said. “He wanted to go back into the game but with the weakness he was having in the shoulder, we couldn’t clear him to do that.”

While Texas fans fretted over the loss, McCoy took the injury in stride and planned the very public surprise for Monday night. The local news station described the romantic gesture:

The former Longhorns quarterback brought girlfriend Rachel Glandorf to Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Monday night. When they got to the field, “Will You Marry Me?” was on the stadium’s giant high definition scoreboard screen.

When she turned around, McCoy was on his knee to propose.

Glandorf said yes, and the couple has yet to disclose a date or other wedding details.
