Prince Raises The Roof With ‘Screwdriver’ On ‘Late Night With Jimmy Fallon’ [Video]

Prince dropped in on Late Nightwith Jimmy Fallon last night, and threw down a take-no-prisoner’s performance of his recent single “Screwdriver.”

Backed by an all-female backing band, 3rd Eye Girl, the rarely seen legend then delighted the studio audience and virtual viewers with a rendition of “Bambi,” a cut off his 1979 second studio album, Prince.

In true rock and roll style, Prince ended his two-song set by throwing down his guitar, but it’s likely the maestro has a few spare.

Ahead of the start of his West Coast tour, which kicks off in April, the 54-year-old has been releasing new music on his website in a download only format, while teasing new releases on newly created Twitter and YouTube accounts.

After a run of intimate rehearsal gigs in his home city of Minneapolis, Prince is reported to have booked six dates at a jazz club to audition for a new drummer and take his new band through their paces.

NME reports the musician released “Rock And Roll Love Affair” in December, shortly followed by “Screwdriver” and another new track “Breakfast Can Wait” in February.

As previously reported byThe Inquisitr, Prince was recently confirmed as the headline act at the Montreux Jazz Festival for three shows in July, and has also been selected as this year’s recipient of Billboard’s Icon Award. The award will be presented to the performer by singer-songwriter Alicia Keys at a ceremony in Las Vegas on May 19, Billboard notes.
