China Pollution: Officials Acknowledge ‘Cancer Villages’

China’s environmental agency has admitted to the existence of so-called cancer villages as a result of rampant air and water pollution.

In an official government report, the Chinese government concedes that these high-risk locations exist in the country, AFP reports: “Poisonous and harmful chemical materials have brought about many water and atmosphere emergencies… certain places are even seeing ‘cancer villages.’ ”

China’s booming economy and rapid industrialization have brought with it huge ramifications for the health of its citizens, the French news agency adds:

“The use of the term in an official report, thought to be unprecedented, comes as authorities face growing discontent over industrial waste, hazardous smog and other environmental and health consequences after years of rapid development.”

The report from the Chinese Environmental Ministry, “Guard against and control risks presented by chemicals to the environment during the 12th Five-Year period (2011-2015),” acknowledges that the country makes heavy use of toxic chemicals that are banned in many industrialized nations and could pose a long-term risk to human health, according to the BBC.

Beijing and other cities in China have been blanketed in deadly smog particularly recently causing a mass public outcry.

Mike Adams, the self-named health ranger, claims that after years of denial, China’s communist government finally had to admit the truth of what is happening to its air and water:

“In reality, China has the worst pollution problems of any modern nation on our planet. It has allowed industry to explode at the cost of devastating environmental destruction. Virtually no environmental regulations are enforced. The air, water, and food are all toxic. Ninety percent of the water supply to Chinese cities is severely contaminated, and forty percent of the nation’s rivers are extremely toxic.

“This is how ‘cancer villages’ appear, of course: People living in China eat the food grown in China. They breathe the air. They drink the water. And then they start mutating at the genetic level. This results in cancer, birth defects and untold human suffering.”

In the posting on the Natural News website, Adams also warns readers about China-based food products, including even those designated as certified organic.
