It’s Alive! 787 First Flight Video

Boeing’s troubled 787 Dreamliner project has finally got off the ground today with the first 787 flight.

The 787 flrst flight video shows the innovative composite materials plane taking off in fine Seattle weather: overcast skies and showers. The first flight was uneventful with the aircraft operating as expected, be it two years late for its first flight.

The interesting thing to note from the videos is the wing design: the wings literally tip upwards, part of a major design change that Boeing claims saves on fuel and therefore costs and “greenhouse” gases.

840 787’s are on order, with the first set to be delivered to ANA in last 2010. One of the biggest orders for the plane is Qantas, who will be using the 787 to replace its aging 767 fleet.
