Christie Laughs With Fat Jokes On Letterman Appearance

Chris Christie rolled with the fat jokes Monday at a taping of The Late Show, poking fun at himself alongside host David Letterman.

During the interview, Letterman noted that he’s made it a point of making fat jokes about the New Jersey governor. Christie seemed to notice, CBS New York noted.

“We’ve made jokes about you – not just one or two; not just ongoing; intermittent, but…”

While Letterman was speaking, Christie took out a doughnut and began eating it.

“I didn’t know (the interview) was going to be this long,” Christie said.

Christie said he takes fat jokes in stride, saying that he considers himself “fair game” for comedians. He even said he has a few favorite fat jokes that Letteman’s told.

“The first one was, ‘Celebrity birthday today – Chris Christie turns 50. He blew out the candles on his cake, and he wished for another cake,’ ” Christie said.”And I don’t know if this is one of your best ones, but I think it’s very topical given what went on (Super Bowl Sunday),” Christie continued. “‘A billion dollars will be spent on potato chips for Super Bowl Sunday, and that’s just at Governor Christie’s house.”

Chris Christie said the only thing he cares about is if the joke is funny, not whether it’s fair or mean to him.

“If it’s funny, I’ll laugh,” he said.

Christie has heard more than fat jokes lately. As the governor has risen to become one of the highest-profile Republicans, he’s also become a target for critics. But as The Associated Press noted, Christie is ready to roll with it.
