‘John Lennon’ Crime Wave Plagues Brazil


Belo Horizonte, Brazil – Imagine dozens of people named John Lennon at the center of a Brazilian crime wave. It’s easy if you try.

In the Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte, a number of adults named “John Lennon” have been arrested or found murdered for their involvement in criminal activities, reports MSN.

Some back story: Apparently, The Beatles have a huge following in Brazil. When John Lennon was killed in 1980, many Brazilian mothers ended up naming their sons after the legendary musician, pacifist, and human rights activist. Now, those kids are grown-ups, and a bunch of them are involved in Brazil’s crime scene.

Brazil Dispatch reports that three men named “John Lennon” have been arrested in the course of one month, while a fourth man named for the Beatles frontman wound up in the morgue.

A man named John Lennon Ribeiro Siqueira was arrested for an attempted robbery of a lottery shop. Another man, named John Lennon Fonseca Ferreira was nabbed for an attempted home invasion. Lastly, John Lennon Camargos Gomes was arrested for drug trafficking, and he is also accused of five murders.

Lastly, we have John Lennon Sebastiao da Silva, who was found dead in a car from what authorities believe is a revenge killing.

But hey, not all of the John Lennons turned out so bad. 22-year-old John Lennon Silva Santos plays defense for one of Rio de Janeiro’s most popular football teams, Botafogo. Unlike his parents, Santos said that he’s not really a huge Beatles guy. “I prefer gospel music,” he said.
