‘Girl Meets World’ Casts Sabrina Carpenter As Riley’s Best Friend

The cast of Girl Meets World just got a little bigger.

Sabrina Carpenter has been cast as Maya Fox, the best friend of Cory and Topanga’s daughter, Riley, according to TV Line.

Sources told TV Line that Disney executives were impressed by Carpenter when she was cast in the Disney XD pilot Gulliver Quinn. The show, which was greenlit in 2011, was set to follow the eponymous character, played by Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite) as he enrolled in seventh grade after returning from a 15-year research expedition with his family. The show never made it to series.

After Gulliver Quinn, Carpenter was cast as the voice of Princess Vivian in Sofia the First. She also appears as a younger version of Becki Newton’s character, Chloe, in the Fox comedy The Goodwin Games.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the entire cast of Boy Meets World were offered roles in the spinoff. Series creator Michael Jacobs said:

“I didn’t want to talk to everybody about something that was only a discussion. Then the world reacted and I got a bajillion phone calls. Rider [Strong] and Will Friedle and all of the cast said, ‘What is this? We thought we were done!’ We sat down with them and talked about what their roles on the show might be. Whoever wants to be part of this show will be and whoever wants to move on will. The most important thing is to see what the show is and then see what their part in it will be.”

As we have previously reported, Boy Meets World stars Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel will be returning for the spinoff. Rowan Blanchard was cast as their daughter, Riley Matthews, earlier this week.
