Kriss Kross Reunite: Hip Hop Duo Coming Back For One More Show

Kriss Kross will reunite for a special one-off show next month, 21 years after their song “Jump” became a worldwide hit. In other news, I feel about 108.

Mac Daddy and Daddy Mac, now 32 years old, will appear on stage at a concert to mark the 20th anniversary of Atlanta’s So So Def Recordings. It is unconfirmed whether they’ll be wearing their clothes the right way round. Let’s hope not.

For those too young to know, Kriss Kross was an American rap duo comprising Chris “Mac Daddy” Kelly and Chris “Daddy Mac” Smith. Aged 12, they released “Jump” (video embedded below) to an unprepared world, influencing the likes of, er, PJ and Duncan. The song was #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for eight weeks in 1992, though remains their only truly massive hit. The group’s next two singles reached #13 and #64 respectively.

Nowadays, the duo can probably walk down most streets without being recognized, but that could soon change. While a stadium comeback tour seems unlikely, the pair’s one-date comeback will be eagerly awaited by people “of a certain age”.

If you fancy seeing the duo live, Kriss Kross reunite at a concert on February 23 at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre. The show will also star label-founder Jermaine Dupri, Da Brat and Bow Wow. The Atlanta Journal Constitutionreports that the event will also be attended by Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed.

The Twitter feed of So So Def Recordings confirms:

The story of Kriss Kross’ rise to success is actually quite charming. Dupri discovered the two ten-year-olds in an Atlanta shopping mall. Within two years, the pint-sized pair were supporting Michael Jackson on his “Dangerous” world tour. Here’s what the guys look like today:

And here, of course, is the song that they never quite topped:

Share your favorite Kriss Kross moments in the comments (I mean, obviously it’s “Jump”, but still).
