Dog Goes To Mass Every Day At Church Where Owner’s Funeral Was Held

A dog has attended mass every day for a year at the church where his owner’s funeral was held. The ongoing act of love and dedication may prove once and for all that dog is truly man’s best friend. The German shepherd’s owner, Maria Margherita Lochi, was laid to rest after a mass at the Santa Maria Assunta Church in San Donaci, Italy.

Lochi brought the German shepherd named Tommy to church with her every day for mass, according to The Blaze. The bond created through the owner’s faith is credited with keeping the 7-year-old canine coming back the Santa Maria Assunta Church.

Maria Margherita Lochi let Tommy sit at her feet during mass, a routine the German shepherd appears not to have forgotten. Although some folks who attended mass at the Santa Maria Assunta Church did not think having a dog in the sanctuary was appropriate, the majority of the congregation enjoyed having Tommy around.

During an interview with the Daily Mail, Father Donato Panna had this to say about the unusual act of devotion by the dog:

“He’s there every time I celebrate mass and is very well behaved. He doesn’t make a sound. He’s still coming to mass even after Maria’s funeral. He waits patiently by the side of the alter and just sits there quietly.”

Father Panna also stated that he simply could not force himself to make the dog leave the church and noted that he had recently lost his beloved dog. Since Lochi’s death, Tommy has been cared for by the local community; members of the village leave food out for him on a daily basis. Father Panna is currently looking for someone to permanently adopt Tommy.
