Music producer turn actor Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi will be getting behind the wheel in DreamWorks’ Need For Speed feature film.

The film, based on the popular EA video game of the same name, follows Tobey Marshall as a man framed for a racing accident that kills his best friend. After getting out of prison, Marshall races cross country for vengeance.

Marshall is set to be played by Aaron Paul and Cudi has been cast as his best friend.

Written by John George Gatins, Need For Speed is set to be directed by Scott Waugh, who recently co-dircted Act of Valor. Deadline also reports that the movie, co-starring Kudi, will focus on 1970s-style fast paced cars.

While his role may appear small in the movie, CinemaBlend hints that Cudi may also contribute to the soundtrack. He previously contributed songs to The Hunger Games and Fright Night . However, there is no confirmation that he has been hired to also work on the music.

Kid Cudi joins an already full cast. Previously announced cast members include Dominic Cooper and Imogen Poots. Along with the announcement of Cudi, DreamWorks announced the casting of Ramon Rodriguez, Rami Malek, and Harrison Gilberston.

The casting is good timing for Cudi, whose current show on HBO, How To Make It In America, was recently cancelled. He is set to make his big screen debut when Max Nichol’s Two Night Stand comes out later this year.
