Michael Fassbender has split from his Shame co-star Nicole Beharie.
The two began dating in 2011 after shooting the film in which Fassbender plays a man struggling with sex addiction. They went public in 2012, but Fassbender said that it was hard for them to maintain the relationship since they lived so far apart.
“We’re trying to see each other as often as possible,” he said. “That’s kind of difficult when she lives here (in New York) and I live in England.”
Beharie confirmed news of the split Sunday, writing on Twitter , “Yes its true Fassbender and I are no longer dating.”
However, some people are speculating that the two have gotten engaged, hence why Beharie said “no longer dating” instead of “no longer together,” but that may be just be wishful thinking. Others thought it was odd that Beharie referred to her ex by his last name and followed up that tweet with “More interesting… Here’s the latest 42 trailer.”
Fassbender was previously linked to X-Men: First Class co-star Zoe Kravitz. Unlike with Beharie, Fassbender and Kravitz did begin dating while they were working together on the film in 2010. There is a 12 year age difference between the two, but sources said that Kravitz is “really mature for her age” and that she was “actually the one taking care of him most of the time.”
Fassbender has yet to acknowledge the split, but that could be because he is busy filming his next movie, the musician comedy Frank .
