Zynga’s rapid fall from grace has claimed another handful of its social and mobile games. PetVille is one of 10 titles the company will shut down as the new year rolls around.
The game developer has announced a surprisingly lost list of titles that it will no longer support. Unfortunately for some players, PetVille and Mafia Wars 2 are already gone. According to TechCrunch , Zynga stopped supporting these games on December 30.
The company is reportedly closing up shop on a number of its titles in an effort to restructure itself in the wake of recent financial troubles. The Japanese arm of the company recently revealed that it would be shutting its doors after the beginning of the year.
Needless to say, a number of people who have devoted years to games such as PetVille are understandably saddened by its removal. According to NBC News , a number of players took their sorrows to the company’s official Facebook page.
Player Judith Baur wrote:
“My Autistic son and I had played Petville together for two years. It was something we could do together, and made us very happy. I wish you ‘people’ could have seen the streams of tears running down both our faces as we played our last session. We even took photographs. I guess money trumps everything!”
When the company announced that Mafia Wars 2 was closing down in December, Zynga said in a statement that players would be given a “consolation price” as an apology for pulling the plug.
The company said in a statement:
“Zynga is committed to helping Mafia Wars 2 players find a new place to play. As a thank you for your participation, we would like to offer you a one-time, complimentary bonus package in one of either ‘CastleVille,’ ‘ChefVille,’ ‘FarmVille 2,’ ‘Mafia Wars,’ or ‘YoVille.’ “
It’s currently unclear if the same offer will be extended to those affected by the recent announcement. A list of the games and the corresponding cancellation dates are below.
