Trump On Stephen Willeford: Fortunately He Had A Gun That Was Shooting In The Opposite Direction [Video]

President Donald Trump spoke about gun control issues by blaming the mental health problems of 26-year-old Devin Patrick Kelley and praising the heroes who chased Devin down after he fled the First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs. Trump said it wasn’t the time to speak in-depth about guns after Devin killed 26 people, but the president reiterated that he was glad to hear Stephen Willeford came up against Kelley with a rifle. According to the Daily Mail, Kelley fled the scene but was chased by Johnnie Langendorff in a truck. Willeford jumped into the back of Johnnie’s truck, instructing him to chase Devin.

Kelley ended up losing control of his truck, with authorities believing that Devin died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The 55-year-old Willeford is being hailed for wounding Devin after he left the church, and 27-year-old Johnnie is being called a hero for chasing Kelley down in his truck at speeds that topped 95 miles per hour, causing Kelley to run off the road and eventually end his life.

Willeford learned about the shooting after his daughter informed him that a man dressed in body armor had begun shooting victims inside the church. Willeford did not attend that church, but he reached for his gun and approached Devin.

As seen in the above video, Trump stated that the actions of people who were shooting in the opposite direction were fortunate, with the president claiming that’s how he really feels about gun control issues. On social media, Trump is receiving both praise and criticism for his differing responses to various mass shootings or other tragic events.

Langendorff was told by Willeford that Devin had “just shot up the church” and to chase him, so that’s what he did. Langendorff’s truck was placed in park as Stephen readied his gun. Willeford works as a local plumber and doesn’t have any experience in the military. However, Stephen was able to shoot a space between Devin’s body armor and wound him in the side.

Summer Caddel, Langendorff’s girlfriend, was able to describe the melee in a Facebook post, explaining how her boyfriend chased Devin off the road as he neared a sharp curve. Kelley died within feet of Langendorff.
