WWE News: Chris Jericho Vs. Kenny Omega Match Booked For NJPW’s ‘Wrestle Kingdom 12’

A huge match has been booked involving WWE’s Chris Jericho and NJPW superstar Kenny Omega. The two wrestling stars who are both under contract with different companies at the moment have been in a war of words that has extended to the Twittersphere and elsewhere. However, the feud over which superstar is the better of the two seems headed for a clear-cut resolution in the wrestling ring as the two will compete at a big New Japan Pro Wrestling event.

There had been speculation that Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega might compete at The Cruise of Jericho 2018 but it appears it will get a much bigger stage. As Wrestling Inc reported on Sunday morning, Kenny Omega was part of the Power Struggle 2017 event for NJPW just hours ago. During the event, he defeated Barretta for the IGWP United States Championship.

After the hard-fought victory, Omega received a message from a surprise challenger up on the video board. It was none other than WWE’s Chris Jericho who told Omega that only one wrestler is “best in the world.” From there, Y2J issued the challenge to Omega for a match. The new IWGP US Champion accepted so it appears that the match will be on.

The New Japan Pro Wrestling Event named Wrestle Kingdom 12 takes place in January which is the same month as WWE’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view. Jericho had been rumored to not be a part of the Rumble due to the fact his band Fozzy would be on tour at the time of the event.

The big Wrestle Kingdom 12 event is scheduled for January 4, 2018, at the Tokyo Dome. Only one other match is currently on the card with IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada set to defend his title against Tetsuya Naito. While Jericho is still considered a part of the WWE, it appears he’s been given some leeway by the company to take on Kenny Omega. Jericho formerly wrestled with NJPW Jericho debuted with NJPW way back in 1997 making this like a 20-year anniversary for him.

The crossover move makes sense as it could be a way to garner interest in both WWE and NJPW from the fans. Not only that, but one has to wonder if Jericho and WWE have something up their sleeves in terms of possibly recruiting Omega to make the move to World Wrestling Entertainment.

Wrestling fans, who is your pick to win the Chris Jericho vs. Kenny Omega dream match in January?
