Cops: Texas Mom Sarah Henderson Shot And Killed Two Young Daughters Just Hours After Police Visit Home

Just hours after North Texas police responded to a call of a potentially suicidal woman, 29-year-old mom Sarah Henderson allegedly shot and killed her two young daughters in their sleep. The horrific crime took place early Thursday morning in the rural town of Payne Springs and was reportedly preceded by an 11:30 p.m. call to authorities. In that call, Jake Henderson, the suspect’s husband, told the dispatcher that he believed his wife was suicidal and asked for paramedics to be dispatched to their home.

Immediately thereafter, Sarah Henderson’s husband reportedly called back and essentially told authorities “never mind,” adding that everything was fine and that medical assistance was not needed after all. Even so, a deputy continued to the home to follow up and perform a welfare check. As Fox News reports, that deputy found nothing amiss.

“Her husband had told EMS that she felt like people were out to get her and that’s pretty much all the information that we’ve got at this time. Deputies spoke to them. Everything appeared to be fine. There [were] no signs of violence. Everybody said they were okay. Nobody was suicidal.”

Just three hours later, at around 2:30 a.m., Jake Henderson frantically called 911 to report that Sarah had shot 5-year-old Kenlie and 7-year-old KayLee Henderson in their heads as they slept in the living room, killing them both. According to multiple reports, Jake Henderson was “sobbing and crying” as he reported the murder of his wife’s two girls to police.

According to Jake Henderson, he woke from a dead sleep to hear his wife Sarah saying, “Babe, I just shot the kids.”

“And I didn’t want to believe it, I went in there and they were dead.”

In a released 911 call, Sarah Henderson could be heard asking her husband,” Why did I do that, babe? What’s going on here,” reports the Dallas Morning News. In response, Jake Henderson attempted to explain to his wife that “nothing” was going on. During the 911 call, Sarah Henderson was reportedly attempting to choke herself and to retrieve the gun she allegedly used to shoot and kill her daughters from her husband’s hands. When she was unable to take the gun from her husband, Texas mom Sarah Henderson could be heard begging him to shoot her.

“I’m not shooting you, no. No, I can’t.”

On Friday, Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse reported to local media that Sarah Henderson had attempted to shoot her husband after allegedly shooting and killing her daughters. However, the gun used in the shootings apparently malfunctioned or misfired, and Jake Henderson was able to disarm his wife before calling 911 to report the murders.

“She actually did try to shoot her husband also, [but] the pistol misfired or there was some kind of malfunction with the pistol. He took the pistol from her and then notified law enforcement.”

When first responders arrived at the Henderson home, they found both girls deceased at the scene. Texas mom Sarah Henderson was taken into custody without incident and placed on suicide watch. The 29-year-old reportedly confessed to killing both of her daughters, even admitting to planning the murders for at least two weeks. Henderson County Sheriff Hillhouse reports that Henderson has shown no remorse or emotion since the crime and that investigators are still trying to determine a motive for the slayings.

“We haven’t seen any sign of remorse right now.”

Authorities do not believe that Sarah Henderson’s husband, the stepfather of the victims, had anything to do with the murders.

After her arrest, Henderson reportedly had little to say to investigators, telling them only that she’d shot her girls and that she had smoked pot earlier in the evening. At least one family member spoke out to the local media about Sarah Henderson’s recent behavior, claiming that the Texas mom had been behaving “erratically” in the weeks leading up to the murder of her daughters. In his call to authorities just hours before Sarah Henderson allegedly turned her gun on her children, her husband reported that Sarah had “felt like people were out to get her.”

Jaylne Palmer, a neighbor of the Henderson family, told the media that she hadn’t bothered to get to know her neighbor’s new wife because of the way Sarah could be heard talking to her girls “all the time.” Palmer claims that Sarah Henderson was always yelling at her daughters and using terrible language as well.

“We could hear her yelling and cussing at the girls. Terrible language. ‘Get your blah blah blah in here.'”

Texas child welfare workers were reportedly involved with Sarah Henderson back in 2010; however, the CPS records are sealed, and the nature of the previous child welfare case is unknown. On Friday, Texas mom Sarah Henderson was arraigned on two charges of capital murder and is being held on $2 million bail.
