Sherin Mathews: CPS Removes Sister From Home Of Missing Girl Put Outside At 3 a.m. For Not Drinking Milk

Three-year-old Sherin Mathews went missing early Saturday morning after reportedly being placed outside at 3 a.m. by her father because she failed to drink her milk. Sherin’s older sister has now been removed from the family’s Richardson, Texas, home by local authorities as the investigation continues into Sherin’s disappearance.

Marissa Gonzales, a spokesperson for Child Protective Services (CPS), told CBS 11 that the Mathews family “had contact” with the agency before, but was barred by law from offering more “details about the incident/incidents.” It was revealed, however, that Sherin’s 4-year-old sister had been removed from the home Monday morning and placed into foster care.

Gonzales also said that at present, CPS is working on the investigation into Sherin’s disappearance with law enforcement.

Sherin’s father, Wesley Mathews, was subsequently arrested and charged with abandoning or endangering a child. The arrest warrant affidavit indicates that in the middle of the night on Saturday, he took Sherin outside and told her to stand close to a large tree that was located near the family’s backyard, according to CBS 19. Mathews alleges that at around 3:15 a.m., he went to check on Sherin and she was gone.

The tree noted in the affidavit sits behind a fence and is located across an alley about 100 feet from the family’s residence, according to the Dallas Morning News.

The affidavit also states that Mathews informed police that coyotes have been seen on several occasions in the alley near where Sherin was told to stand, ABC 7 reports.

Authorities were not called to the scene by Sherin’s parents until approximately 8 a.m., almost five hours after the little girl vanished, notes the Dallas Morning News.

Mathew’s wife has been questioned by police and three vehicles owned by the family have been taken from the home by authorities, according to Fox 4.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, police have gone door-to-door in their quest to find Sherin, even using search dogs to attempt to pick up a scent to give them some clue as to where she may be.

Late Sunday night, Mathews posted $250,000 bond and was released from custody, according to the Dallas Morning News.

The Richardson Police Department has stated that Sherin suffers from developmental issues and her verbal communication skills are limited.

Sherin was last seen on October 7 wearing a pink long-sleeve top, black pajama bottoms, and pink flip-flop sandals. She is described as being an Asian female who weighs around 22 pounds and is approximately three feet in height. Sherin has black hair and brown eyes.

The Richardson Police Department is urging anyone with any information about Sherin or her whereabouts to call 972-744-4800.
