Andruw Jones Arrested For Battery On Christmas Morning

Andruw Jones was arrested for battery for an incident that took place outside of Atlanta early on Christmas morning.

Though details were scant about the nature of his arrest, the Gwinnett Country Sheriff’s Department said the 35-year-old Jones was arrested shortly before 4 am, The Sports XChange reported.

Andruw Jones spent the first 12 years of his 17-year MLB career with the Atlanta Braves. He played as a backup outfielder for the New York Yankees in 2011 and 2012, and earlier this month signed with the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles of Japan’s Pacific League for a one-year, $3.5 million contract.

During his career, Andruw Jones was known more for his stellar play on the field than any off-the-field troubles. Between 1998 and 2007 Jones won 10 consecutive Gold Gloves, putting him in a tie for the most from an outfielder. The other outfielders to earn 10 Gold Gloves were Al Kaline, Ichiro Suzuki, and Ken Griffey Jr.

Jones was also able to evolve his game as he grew older. When he first broke into the league, Andruw Jones was known as a speedster, stealing 20+ bases from 1997 to 2000. As his speed diminished, Andruw Jones hit more for power and focused on hitting only fastballs, his Wikipedia page notes.

Andruw Jones is married to Nicole Derick. Together they have one son, Druw, and one daughter, Madison.

After bounding around the league in his last five seasons, Andruw Jones was arrested in the city that made him a star early in his career, Sports World Report noted. It has yet to be reported who Andruw Jones may have attacked or why the incident took place.
