WWE ‘Monday Night Raw’ Shock: Fans Cheered For Roman Reigns And The Shield Reunion

This week’s WWE Monday Night Raw provided a huge shock, the WWE universe cheered for wrestling anti-hero Roman Reigns. Throughout his WWE career Reigns has been heavily promoted as the face of the network, first as a member of The Shield, and then as a solo star. Many WWE fans feel that Vince McMahon has promoted Reigns way beyond his ability and as a consequence the “Big Dog” is normally greeted by a chorus of boos when he takes the ring.

Having Reigns retire The Undertaker at WrestleMania 33 seemed to be the WWE’s attempt to push Reigns to the very top of the WWE roster. Of course, no one should suggest that Reigns could ever replace The Undertaker, but last night’s Monday Night Raw suggests that wrestling fans could finally be warming to Reigns.

As reported by Sportskeeda, the WWE universe treated Reigns “like a babyface for the first time in an eternity.” They suggest that Reigns’ recent feud with John Cena, during the buildup to the No Mercy PPV, may be behind a surge in Reigns’ popularity. There is little doubt that Reigns improved his promo work during the feud with Cena, and their match at No Mercy was pretty well received.

As reported on the official WWE website, Reigns took on The Miz for the Intercontinental Championship on last night’s Raw. It was a quality match, the atmosphere was electric, but the result was entirely unsatisfactory. Reigns won the match but did not win the championship due to The Miz being disqualified.

Seriously, in what sport can a champion be disqualified and still retain the title? Only in WWE wrestling.

The aftermath of Roman Reigns vs. The Miz was almost as interesting as the match itself. As reported by CBS, Reigns was licking his wounds in the locker room when he was joined by Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins. Monday Night Raw closed with The Shield brothers standing side by side, they looked at each other and nodded as the credits began to roll.

Given that the various members of The Shield had been battling members of the “Miztourage” earlier in the evening, it would seem that, after months of rumors, The Shield reunion is finally in the cards.
