‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ Full Trailer Makes Its Way Online [Video]

The first full trailer for director J.J. Abrams’ highly-anticipated sequel Star Trek Into Darkness is now available to anyone with a high-speed internet connection and some time to kill.

If you saw Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in theaters over the weekend, then you may have caught the first nine minutes of the Star Trek sequel before the feature began. Those of us who skipped that experience will have to make due with the new trailer.

The clip is admittedly a little darker than I had anticipated. However, this is certainly not a complaint; the trailer gave me goosebumps simply because it was serious in tone and somber in atmosphere.

Fortunately for obsessive movie nerds who thrive on endless speculation, it’s still not clear who Benedict Cumberbatch will portray in the upcoming sequel. While he narrates the embedded trailer, no one ever refers to the character by name. Apparently Paramount Pictures and Bad Robot aren’t ready to reveal their hand just year.

According to Screen Rant, even the first nine minutes of the film didn’t reveal who Cumberbatch will play in Star Trek Into Darkness. However, the website did say there were enough details to further fuel the flames of debate between fans.

Even the official synopsis from Paramount is cryptic:

“When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.”

Until the studio decides to let this cat out of the proverbial bag, your guess is honestly as good as mine. Star Trek Into Darkness will arrive in theaters on May 17, 2013. The latest trailer can be found below.
