‘My Favorite Color Is Hitler,’ Designer Under Fire After A Major Font Fail

A designer known as BelleChic is under major fire after creating a bag that appears to say, “My Favorite Color is Hitler,” even though the designer meant to write, “My favorite color is Glitter.” The unfortunately chosen style of font made the word appear to have the same name as the notorious 20th-century dictator, which many found to be offensive.

BelleChic claims they have been selling the item for over a year, and they have had no issues with it in the past. It has only been now that people are freaking out over the design. Still, the company has changed the font to align with “the company’s values.”

Matt Molen, Chief Marketing Officer for BelleChic, weighed in on the issue to Allure magazine, letting them know that they did not intend to offend with the bag they had created.

“While I realize that most of the social media buzz and commentary has been tongue-in cheek, the type of abhorrent sentiment conveyed as part of the misinterpretation absolutely does not align with our company values, nor is it something we would ever want to encourage or support.”

It is unclear why the bag’s unfortunate choice of font type had recently created such a buzz.

The sister of the woman who owns BelleChic has opened up on Twitter, saying that her sister in no way meant to be antisemitic or to provoke intense feelings that the infamous dictator often does when mentioned. She also stated that everyone makes mistakes, and her sister is now aware of the design flaw.

According to BelleChic’s owner’s sister, the font was not picked for any alternative purpose other than the fact that the designer simply thought it looked good on the tote bag. Unfortunately, it does not appear that she noticed the design flaw until it was pointed out all over the Internet.

BelleChic stated that they were “beyond embarrassed” by the original design and replaced it with a new image so that people could no longer mistake the word “glitter” for “Hitler.” The website debuted the new design, saying they hoped people liked the new image.

Others still dragged the bag, saying that they found it to be tacky anyway, or they pointed out that glitter is not actually a color.

Either way, the bag’s design has been a huge lesson in making sure that designers double and triple check their work.
