This Is Us is back—well, the cast is, at least. The stars of the hit NBC drama have returned to work on the Paramount lot in Los Angeles to shoot scenes for the upcoming second season, and they left some clues as to what to expect when the megahit show returns this fall. This Is Us stars Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore, and Sterling K. Brown posed for a selfie to let fans know they have reunited, and that was just the beginning.
While the first season of This Is Us ended on an ominous note with Jack and Rebecca Pearson (Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore) headed for splitsville in the mid-1990s, the couple will go back in time to happier times in Season 2. This is Us creator Dan Fogelman posted a photo from the dailies from the first day of filming which shows Jack and Rebecca staring into the window of the nursery at the hospital after the birth of their children Kevin, Kate, and Randall. Ventimiglia is in full beard mode and wearing his telltale denim jacket, making it clear the second season will flashback to the couple’s early days following the arrival of the Big Three in August 1980.
Entertainment Tonight posted another big clue from Moore’s Instagram story that teases something that could happen in Jack Pearson’s future. Moore posted a photo of a hat with a logo for the Pittsburgh-based “Big Three Homes” emblazoned on it. In earlier episodes of This Is Us, the Pearson patriarch dreamed of leaving his boring office job and starting his own construction company. Now it appears that dream could possibly come to fruition early in Season 2, and that could mean Jack just may live past the day he walked out the door to give his relationship with Rebecca some air.
The time-traveling NBC drama will once again take fans back and forth through the decades. The on-set presence of newly promoted series regulars Logan Shroyer and Niles Fitch, who play the teen versions of Kevin and Randall Pearson, means that at least part of the Season 2 premiere will dive back into the mid-1990s.
Last week, This Is Us star Moore documented some prep work she was doing ahead of filming for the second season. Moore, 33, posted photos to Instagram Stories which showed her getting a face mold to play the older version of her character, who is in her mid-60s in the show’ present day scenes.
While the This Is Us premiere will show the days after the Big Three’s birth, make no mistake, a big clue about how Jack dies will also be revealed. Fogelman previously told Entertainment Weekly that the second season premiere holds “a huge piece of the puzzle” about Jack’s death.
This Is Us Season 2 premieres Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
