‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ After-Credits Scene: Potentially Major Spoiler About New Villain Tucked At The End

Moviegoers who head out to Spider-Man: Homecoming will likely want to know if there’s an after-credits scene that keeps them in the seats a little longer and offers some spoilers of the Marvel series to come.

The newly released redux of the superhero series is the first time that Spider-Man has entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Captain America: Civil War. As The Wrap noted, Spider-Man has been part of the Sony company rather than Marvel Studios, so fans of the series could not expect the traditional after-credits scenes that the Marvel series has become known for.

For those who aren’t familiar with the trend to include end-credits scenes, these are short scenes that play after all the credits have ended. For the Marvel movies, there is a formula for nearly every movie that includes one scene that plays during the credits and introduces a new character or plot line for a future movie and another that comes at the very end and offers a bit of comedy or closes out a lingering plot line.

So, does Spider-Man: Homecoming follow the traditional Marvel formula and include an after-credits scene or two?

As The Wrap noted, it’s worth staying in your seat for the credits in this one. Spider-Man: Homecoming does have two after-credits scenes, including a potentially major spoiler in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the scene that plays midway through the credits, villain Vulture meets up with Mac Gargan, who tries to grill him on the real identity of Spider-Man.

The Wrap gave a rundown of what moviegoers will see.

“Vulture chooses not to tell him, but Gargan is still on the warpath to take down Spider-Man. And comic fans will know the significance of that name: Gargan is the villain who becomes Scorpion, one of Spider-Man’s worst enemies. (He also later becomes Venom, the creature created by melding a human with an evil alien symbiote.) That suggests we can expect at least Scorpion coming after Spider-Man in the future.

“There’s also the suggestion that with Scorpion, Vulture, and Shocker (Bokeem Woodbine) showing up in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man might be facing the villain team called the Sinister Six in the future as well.”

As Bleeding Cool noted, it’s likely that Gargan will show up as the villain in the next movie in the Spider-Man series.

The second after-credits scene in Spider-Man: Homecoming offers a bit more comedy with Chris Evans as Captain America, poking fun at the after-credits trend itself.

There will likely be a huge audience to see Spider-Man: Homecoming in the opening weekend and beyond. The movie has opened to excellent reviews, and is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.

Variety noted that industry analysts expect Spider-Man: Homecoming to top $100 million in its opening weekend.

So if you’re one of the many heading out to see Spider-Man: Homecoming, make sure to stay in your seat for both after-credits scenes.
