Twitter has launched a new venture that is sure to tickle the fancy of some: Twitter Wine.
Twitter Wine is being offered in conjunction with DIY winery Crushpad under the Twitter Fledgling Wine label. According to the official spiel, the “wines are being made using some of the best vineyards in California…. In addition, 2009 appears to be an excellent vintage in California, potentially one of the best of the decade.”
The introduction of Wine into the Twitter stable of microproducts is all for a good cause however, with profits going to Room to Read, a charity promoting literacy for children in places including Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Laos, Nepal, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, and Zambia.
Twitter founders Ev Williams and Biz Stone say that the lets get drunk to help charity drive “embodies two things that are at the core of Twitter’s mission: providing access to information and highlighting the power of open communication to bring about positive change.”
