Roman Reigns To Announce WWE SummerSlam Plans Next Week

Next month, the WWE Monday Night Raw brand will hold their Great Balls of Fire pay-per-view and Brock Lesnar will defend his WWE Universal Championship against Samoa Joe. However, there is no word yet on the fate of one of the men that Joe beat to earn that title shot – Roman Reigns. On Raw this week, the WWE announced that Roman Reigns would arrive on the show next week to reveal his SummerSlam plans.

It will be interesting to see what Roman Reigns plans to say about SummerSlam. For one thing, Roman has no match for Great Balls of Fire yet so looking ahead to SummerSlam seems strange. One thought is that Reigns will want to challenge Brock Lesnar for the title but since he lost a match at Extreme Rules to fight Brock in July, there are three other men from that match who might have something to say about that.

At the moment, it looks like Bray Wyatt will start a feud with Seth Rollins, which is a complete change from the feud that it looked like Bray was starting with Finn Balor right after the WWE roster shakeup. Rollins and Wyatt faced off on Monday Night Raw and Wyatt played mind games with Rollins while Seth called Wyatt a coward.

That will probably take place at Great Balls of Fire which makes Roman Reigns upcoming match a mystery. The fate of Finn Balor at Great Balls of Fire is also unknown as he also missed out on this week’s Monday Night Raw along with Roman Reigns.

There is the huge WWE rumors that Braun Strowman will make his return in July and set up a SummerSlam match against Brock Lesnar in August. The original plans were for Braun to fight Reigns in an Ambulance Match at Extreme Rules and win the right to fight Lesnar at Great Balls of Fire.

Braun Strowman and Brock Lesnar were then supposed to wrestle twice, with the second time coming at SummerSlam. There has to be a way to bring back Strowman and put him immediately in the WWE Universal Championship picture and the Roman Reigns announcement next week on Monday Night Raw could be it.

Roman Reigns likely feels he deserves a WWE Universal Championship match at SummerSlam, playing off his new attitude that Monday Night Raw is his yard. With that said, Roman Reigns could throw out the challenge and just assume he will get his wish when Braun Strowman comes back and attacks.

This could lead to a Roman Reigns vs. Braun Strowman match at Great Balls of Fire with the winner getting a shot at the WWE Universal Championship at SummerSlam. It could even be an Ambulance Match to pay off the attacks on Roman Reigns before Strowman’s injury and just limit Braun to one title match instead of back-to-back shots.

It could also put Roman Reigns out of the WWE Universal Championship picture because he lost two straight matches in a row to determine the No. 1 contender. Finn Balor and Seth Rollins could then get their title shots at Survivor Series and Royal Rumble and Roman Reigns would finally get his shot at WrestleMania 34, paying off the year build.

There is also a chance that the WWE could go into panic mode, thanks to the ratings dropping so drastically, and pull the trigger on Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam but that seems unlikely.

One last option for Roman Reigns includes John Cena, who the WWE has now listed as a “free agent.” While Cena will appear next on SmackDown Live, his free agent status will allow him to show up on Monday Night Raw as well, probably to combat those bad ratings.

While John Cena recently said that he never needed to pass the torch in a match to the future face of the WWE, could a Roman Reigns vs. John Cena match headline SummerSlam?
