Kate Middleton Taking The Summer Off? Royal Schedule Lightened Ahead Of Move

It appears as though Kate Middleton will be taking it easy this summer, as far as royal duties are concerned. The mother-of-two is preparing to move her family from their country home in Anmer Hall to their city dwelling in Kensington Palace before the fall. According to Celeb Dirty Laundry, Kate’s schedule for the next few months is fairly clear. And while the site seems to want to suggest that Middleton is doing things her own way, it seems fairly obvious that she’s just focused on her family and their big move ahead.

The site points out that Middleton was “noticeably absent” during a special ceremony on Wednesday, June 7. Her husband, Prince William, attended the event, which marked the centenary of a First World War battle in Belgium. It’s unclear if Middleton was scheduled to attend the event, but the site suggests that she chose to stay home and care for the couple’s two young children, “backing out” at the “last minute.”

Although the Duchess of Cambridge hasn’t officially canceled anything and Kensington Palace hasn’t announced any kind of official sabbatical, Kate will be fairly free in July and August.

“She’s only scheduled to make two brief public appearances during the annual Trooping the Colour event and this year’s Order of the Garter ceremony at Buckingham Palace. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will also be taking a state trip to Poland and Germany at the request of the British Foreign Office,” Celeb Dirty Laundry reports.

Back in January, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge announced their plans to move to Kensington Palace. It’s the first time that they will live in London since having their children. According to People Magazine, they released a statement explaining their move and plans for Prince George and Princess Charlotte to attend school nearby.

“Their Royal Highnesses love their time in Norfolk and it will continue to be their home. From this autumn, however, the Duke and Duchess will increasingly base their family at Kensington Palace. As they have in recent years, their royal Highnesses are keen to continue to increase their official work on behalf of the Queen and for the charities and causes they support, which will require greater time spent in London. Prince George will begin school in London in September, and Princess Charlotte will also go to nursery and eventually school in London as well,” their statement read.

It seems beyond obvious that Duchess Kate will be very busy packing up her family’s belongings ahead of their big move. She is still expected to make appearances and keep up with the things that are on her schedule, but a lightened summer load is only to be expected given the circumstances.

“They will be here in London and out and about doing more things. [Her] primary role is as a mother and, as any family with children starting school will know, this year will be a significant one,” a source told People Magazine back in January.

And, if you think that things have been relatively quiet on the Kate Middleton front over the past several weeks, that’s likely because she has been super busy helping her sister, Pippa, prepare for her wedding.

Pippa married James Matthews on May 20. Kate was on-hand to assist the bride in every which way, straightening her gown and caring for the bridesmaids (all of whom were children).
