Was Melania Trump part of the reason White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer was excluded from meeting Pope Francis? The president selected a handful of people to join him and Melania for a behind-closed-doors meeting with the Pope in Italy and Sean Spicer, a devout Catholic, was noticeably absent. Sources say all that Spicer wanted on the president’s first foreign trip was the opportunity to meet the Pope. Unfortunately, his wish wasn’t granted.
According to Raw Story, all Spicer wanted to do was meet the Pope, but he was snubbed by Trump. Rumors for weeks about a staff shakeup in Trump’s communications team has been playing out in the media with claims that Spicer will no longer be delivering daily press briefings.
Melania Trump, Ivanka Trump, and Jared Kushner were photographed with the Pope. Others invited to meet the Pope were State Department aide Brian Hook, security head Keith Schiller, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, and National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster.
Sean Spicer has readily defended the president since the election — trying to account for a lot of inexplicable statements and actions that his boss has made. It hasn’t been an easy job, nor one that is enviable. In spite of it all, Spicer has faced the media day-after-day to take hard-hitting questions from reporters. If loyalty is important to Trump, his decision to leave out Spicer in his meeting with the Pope has even shocked reporters. Several reports about the incident sum it up as being cold of Trump to not grant Spicer his lifelong goal of meeting the Pope.

Politico published a report last week about Melania Trump allegedly being dissatisfied with Sean Spicer’s job as Donald’s press secretary. An “outside adviser” said Melania doesn’t feel Spicer is doing enough to defend her husband in the media when it comes to helping his image.
“She was really concerned that Spicer was not doing a good job, that they were not proactive in defending the president.”

According to the report, Melania Trump does surveillance of online reports and cable news covering the president and she gives him feedback over the discrepancies. Sources, many of whom were named, say she cares as much about how Donald is perceived in the media as he does.

He often calls her to get her input and takes it seriously. If she’s unhappy with Spicer, is this why he didn’t get his once-in-a-lifetime chance to meet Pope Francis? In the end, it’s the president who makes the ultimate decision in who he takes with him to meet important people. If Melania has strong feelings about Spicer, it may have influenced her husband’s decision. None of that information is made available to the public, however.
Issues surrounding Trump’s communications team spawned after he abruptly fired former FBI Director James Comey. A frenzied staff had defended the startling decision and somehow spin it so that it had nothing to do with the Russian investigation.
It’s believed that Sean Spicer will be removed from his position as the press secretary when the Trumps return to the White House. The Washington Post reports that he’s likely to be replaced by deputy press secretary Sarah Sanders.
Do you think that Melania Trump may have had a hand in her husband leaving Sean Spicer out of their meeting with the Pope?
