Tom Cruise and his daughter, Suri, from his marriage to Katie Holmes, haven’t been seen together for years. According to reports, the celebrity dad was last photographed with his child in September 2013. Could he be avoiding his little girl because of Scientology?
Just recently, Tom went to Los Angeles to promote his new film, The Mummy, but he reportedly did not arrange a visit with Suri. The 54-year-old actor went to Highland Center in Hollywood, which is approximately 23 miles away from Calabasas, where his ex-wife and daughter live. According to In Touch, Cruise flew to Australia right after the event to continue promoting his new movie.
“Tom could have easily made the trip to see Suri. It only takes about 30 minutes without traffic. It would’ve only added a few hours to his busy schedule,” an insider revealed.
Despite the absence of the Mission: Impossible star, the 11-year-old has a healthy relationship with her mom. A source thinks Katie is an amazing mom because she has done everything in her power over the years to give Suri the best life possible. According to In Touch, they asked Cruise to comment on why he doesn’t see his daughter, but he did not reply.
It appears that the Hollywood superstar is trying to avoid seeing his little girl, and he also seems to have very little to say about her. While Russell Crowe was being interviewed by Fairfax Media, Tom Cruise interrupted the award-winning actor and introduced himself to his sons, Charles and Tennyson.
“I’ve heard a lot about you,” he was heard telling the Crowes.
According to Sydney Morning Herald, Russell was eager to talk about his children while Tom was a bit hesitant to open up about Suri. Cruise was caught off guard when he was asked if he thought that his daughter with Holmes might have the acting gene like her parents.
“You never know, you never know,” he replied.
While the screen heartthrob speaks little about his little girl, he has a lot to say about his career. He allegedly said that he hopes to work until he dies. Tom and Russell have been acting for decades, but never worked on a movie together. The two finally teamed up in The Mummy, which will hit the US theaters on June 9.
“For me, I just love making movies. I have been doing it my whole life,” Cruise said.
“I am shooting Mission Impossible right now, I just left from France to be here today and while I was doing it, I was in post production on another film, one I have coming out in August called American Made and I am also prepping two other films, it’s just what I do,” he added.
There have been rumors coming out that Tom Cruise had been avoiding Suri because she and her mom Katie Holmes were labeled as an SP (Suppressive Person) by the Church of Scientology. This is a term that the organization uses to those who have publicly renounced the religion. However, the Top Gun star told PEOPLE that the description was inaccurate when he was asked if the Dawson’s Creek actress is a Suppressive Person.
“That is a distortion and simplification of the matter. I don’t want to just give an oversimplification of religious doctrine,” he said.
Tom Cruise also claimed that he never abandoned Suri. He confessed that he didn’t see his daughter for more than a 100 days because he was busy filming in London, but he talks on the phone with her nearly every day. He admitted though that calls are a poor substitute for seeing her in person.
“You have to work at it. I’ve gotten very good at it. I tell wonderful stories,” he said. “I also find that, you know, Suri is a very happy child, and confident, and has a good sense of herself.”
