Four Lion Cubs Born At Seattle Zoo Shown On Adorable Video

Four lion cubs were born at Seattle’s Woodland Park Zoo, and, though the babies are not ready for public viewing yet, video has emerged of the adorable cubs.

The four lion cubs were born November 8, the first little born to mother Adia, 3, and father Hubert, 13. The South African lions produced the first litter of cubs born at the zoo since 1991, ABC News reported.

A video posted to YouTube showed Adia caring for the four lion cubs, grooming them as they roll about at her side. The cubs will be moved to where the public can view them once they’re a bit older and the temperature outside is higher than 50 degrees, King 5 in Seatte reported.

“We’ve been monitoring them the last few weeks by video camera,” Martin Ramirez, the zoo’s mammal curator, told ABC News. “By using the video, we’ve been able to tell the mother is taking great care of them. There was one cub early on that was making us very nervous, though.

“She’s a first-time mom, and a typical litter size for a first-time mom is two. We were all really excited when she had the one, and then she had two, and then three came along, and we were like ‘O.K., wow,’ and then the fourth one came along and we were a little worried because that’s a handful. That’s when we made the decision that we’re just going to watch and if we have to intervene, we will.”

The four lion cubs were checked out after they were born by zoo veterinarians and look great. They have round bellies, which show that they’re getting enough to eat, Ramirez said.

Now that the four lion cubs have been born and are healthy, it will be soon time to name them, Ramirez noted. The zoo plans to come up with 10 to 15 potential names and then let the public choose, he said.
