Kimora Lee Simmons Single After Split From Djimon Hounsou

Kimora Lee Simmons is now single after she split from her long-time beau Djimon Hounsou. The pair have been together since 2007 when they met after Simmons split from her ex-husband.

The fashion designer, who is now the president and creative director for JustFab, took to Twitter on Wednesday to confirm the split, reports People. Simmons stated:

“There have been quite a few hurtful rumors circulating. The truth is Djimon + I have been separated for some time. We have remained happy, loving, co-parenting friends + family. We all have much to be thankful for. Happy Thanksgiving.”

The designer’s tweet was sent after a representative for Hounsou confirmed the split, five months after it was first suggested in June. A rep for the Blood Diamond actor stated:

“Djimon Hounsou and Kimora Lee Simmons have officially separated after 5 1/2 years. Though never married, they have one child together, Kenzo Lee Hounsou, who is 3 1/2 years old.”

Simmons, 37, and Hounsou met in 2007 after she split from music mogul Russell Simmons, according to The San Francisco Chronicle. The fashion designer has two daughters with her ex-husband: Ming Lee, 12; and Aoki Lee, 10.

While they were never officially married, Kimora mentioned once that the two were “kind of engaged.” They also staged a traditional commitment ceremony in 2008, which took place in Hounsou’s native country of Benin.

Before their split, the fashion mogul stated of her relationship with Hounsou. “I have a lot off hang-ups in life with men. I’m not very trusting. After my breakup, I thought, I don’t need anything. But now I have someone who has the heart, the soul, and the hotness.”
