Catholics Claim To See Virgin Mary In Malaysian Hospital Window

Hundreds of Catholics in Malaysia have gathered outside of a hospital window after seeing an image they believe resembles the Virgin Mary.

Worshipers also claim they can see an image of an adult Jesus Christ two windows down from his mother.

Nearly 100 Catholics remained outside Sime Darby Medical Centre Sunday, lighting candles, praying, and singing hymns to the apparition in the seventh-floor window. Some came from as far away as Singapore, which is 187 miles away, to see the image.

Eunice Fernandez, who lives near the hospital, told AFP, “We believe Mary, mother of God, has a message for us, as she is looking down on us and then at a Malaysian flag. We can also see Jesus and he is also moving, they are not static.”

Malaysia, which is predominately Muslim, has a large Catholic minority.

Father Lawrence Andrew, editor of the Malaysian Catholic newsletter The Herald, said the church would have to investigate and verify the authenticity of the images on the windows as well as “the experiences of the witnesses.”

“It could be private revelations. We have to make sure they are not imagined but real apparitions,” he said.

Several witnesses have said the image has “grown clearer” since Saturday.

Reverend Sherman Keuk, director of the Diocesan Pastoral Institute of Melaka-Johor, said it was a good thing if the image excited deeper faith among the Catholics.

“But even so, this by no means confirms the authenticity of the image as an apparition of Mary,” he said. He also advised Catholics to always keep their attention on Jesus Christ.

Do you think the image on the window is the Virgin Mary?
